The Blount County GIS Group has a GIS internship opportunity available beginning in 2013. The primary responsibilities for the position will include: GPS Field work; creating and maintaining (editing attribute information & spatial data) Geodatabase Feature Classes utilizing ArcGIS Desktop; and specialty map production in support of City of Alcoa, Blount County government, and City of Maryville activities. This position may perform other duties as needed.

 

Examples of work includes

·        Storm Sewer asset maintenance – performs field data collection of Blount County storm sewer assets using Trimble GeoXT GPS receiver, and updates existing GeoDatabase feature classes with this data.

·        Annexation layer development – develops new feature classes for the cities of Alcoa and Louisville tracking the annexation of property into the City from incorporation to the present.

Knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop software is required, and knowledge of Trimble Hardware/Software is preferred. Successful candidate must be highly motivated, and possess a valid Driver’s License. All candidates must be at least 18 years of age.  $12.00 per hour.  Hours based on availability.
