Subject: [DDDHLIST] Seeking nominations for special session with distinguished science journalist

Dear Deans, Directors, and Department Heads:

Do you or your colleagues have one or two students--graduate or undergraduate--who are very interested in writing about science for the general public and would profit from a one-session "master class" with Jeffrey Kluger, senior science writer for Time magazine and author of eight books?

Mr. Kluger has written more than 40 cover stories on science and health for Time.  With Astronaut Jim Lovell, he wrote the book Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13 that was made into the movie Apollo 13.

The master class will be held Tuesday, April 2 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  Mr. Kluger has titled his master class "Science Journalism: Curating the Universe."

Much of the master class will be a discussion, so students in any field who are interested in science communication can get advice on any aspect of science writing from a distinguished journalist who has covered stories across the spectrum of science, technology, and medicine.

If you or your colleagues know of interested students, please send me their names, departments, academic levels (freshman? doctoral student?), and e-mail addresses so that I can send them an invitation saying that you have nominated them.

Jeffrey Kluger will be on campus to deliver our annual Hill Lecture, a separate event, later on Tuesday, April 2--at 8 p.m. in the McClung Museum Auditorium.  We hope you, your colleagues, and your students will make plans to attend his talk on  "Science as Civilizer."

Additional information about the Hill Lecture, open to the public and free of charge, will reach you soon in another message.

Thanks for your help in identifying worthy students for Jeff Kluger's Master Class.

Mark Littmann
