Featured co-op student: Willow Love

Willow LoveOur student this week is, Willow Love, pictured at right, a chemical engineering major, who accepted a co-op at Dow Corning/Hemlock Semiconductor, LLC., located in Clarksville, Tennessee.

"I worked in the Converted Standard Operating Procedures," said Love. "I did small pressure drop projects, created intellitrac rounds, Pi Processbooks, helped redesign a filtration system, and my main project was DPR Inventory Management Strategy. This company has a lot of trade secrets so I am not permitted to go into great detail about any work I performed."

Love's biggest challenge during this assignment was determining what the expected outcome was on some of the bigger projects.

"I had to simply work at it and question when I got the chance," he said. "Eventually I was told I completed exactly what was desired."

He has advice for students wishing to co-op with this company.

"Take the position and try to get into DPHOST or one of the challenging branches," Love said. "They will give you more challenging work, but you will learn the most from it. There were hundreds of courses, with ample training and I learned plenty."

Students may read more about their peers' co-op experiences by logging into their Engineering Professional Practice profile via www.coop.utk.edu, clicking “Resource Library” (on the left margin) and selecting “Students at Work–In Their Own Words.”
