The University of Akron is hiring two tenure-track librarians. These positions have full faculty status and are part of a collective bargaining unit represented by Akron-AAUP. Pay is commensurate with a beginning Assistant Professor Instructional Design Librarian (position 7667) Responsibilities Under the direction of the Head of Research & Learning Services, partners with subject librarians to develop learning objects to be used in all parts of the University Libraries information literacy program including Web-based tutorials, video and audio content for inclusion in the campus Learning Management System (Springboard), and synchronous methods for embedding information literacy in Web-based courses. Coordinates professional development for subject librarians related to pedagogy, technology integration, and best practices for information literacy instruction. Provides reference service at the User Support Service Desk, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Develops collections in subjects as assigned. Required Qualifications The successful candidate will be required to have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited school. Educational background in information literacy instruction or program development, or professional experience in an academic library providing information literacy instruction to undergraduates. Educational background in instructional design, or experience in an academic library setting designing learning objects for information literacy instruction. Demonstrated knowledge of current educational technologies and best practices in instructional design. Demonstrated knowledge of electronic resources for research and reference services. Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience creating and maintaining student-focused Web-based content. Completion of any ACRL Immersion program. Undergraduate degree or second Master's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or related field. Experience providing instruction or support in Learning Management Systems in general and Springboard/Desire2Learn in particular.
