Come work at the Reference and Web Services Section of the National Library of Medicine.  We have multiple librarian positions in our Reference and Web Services Section in our Public Services Division. Staff hired in these positions will help provide access to consumer health information by supporting work on http://medlineplus.gov/ , MedlinePlus en español, MedlinePlus Mobile and MedlinePlus Connect.  These duties include assisting in planning, designing, testing, implementing and evaluating the entire suite of MedlinePlus products.

  

Reference and Web Services (RWS) provides centralized reference and customer services to users of NLM's products, collections and databases worldwide.  RWS manages a national information resource for the public, patients and families by providing electronic access to reliable health information issued by the National Institutes of Health and other resources.

These positions are located in the Division of Library Operations of the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.

Salary/Benefits

 

The salary range for this position is $51,630 to $97,333 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.  A full benefits package is available, which includes retirement, Thrift Savings Plan participation, health, life, and long-term care insurance.

Basic Requirements:

You must have successfully completed at least 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree in any field; OR have a total of at least 5 years of combined college-level education, training, and/or experience.   This education, training, and/or experience provided you with a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.

 

In addition to meeting the basic requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least (one) 1 year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service; OR have completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR have a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.   Examples of qualifying experience includes:   assisting in the selection of library materials; reviewing for appropriateness routine materials received for a library's collection; performing searches of bibliographic databases; assisting in writing portions of procedures manuals for automated library operations; working with serial acquisitions and integrated library systems; assisting in providing library services to meet a clientele's non-specialized needs; performing specialized Internet searches to meet client research needs; arranging inter-library resource loans.
