INSTRUCTOR OR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

 

Rowland Medical Library at the University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks an Instructor or Assistant Professor-rank librarian to serve as a member of the Technical Services team. This position is responsible for cataloging all formats and assisting with acquisition and management of all monographs.  Additional duties include:  conducting catalog maintenance projects, inputting resources into the Library’s digital archive system, and supervising technical services staff.  This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment.

 

Required:

Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school; minimum 3-5 years library cataloging with acquisitions experience preferred; increasingly responsible work assignments and supervisory responsibilities; ability to multitask and manage detail; strong oral and written communication skills and strong critical thinking skills.  Applicants should also have experience with bibliographic utilities such as OCLC and integrated library systems, preferably Horizon or Sirsi/Dynix.

 

Preferred:

Experience or coursework in health sciences or health sciences libraries; electronic monographs management systems and digital archives experience. Strong commitment to customer service, effective written and oral communication skills, demonstrated organizational ability and problem-solving skills.

 

The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson is the health sciences campus of the University of Mississippi. Rowland Medical Library serves the schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, health related professions, graduate studies, and pharmacy. Jackson is centrally located in Mississippi, approximately three hours from Memphis and New Orleans.
