Information
Organization Teaching Academic Staff Position
The
School of
Information Studies (SOIS), the iSchool at the University of
Wisconsin –
Milwaukee (UWM), invites applications for a nine-month Teaching
Academic Staff
position in Information Organization. The selected applicant
should be prepared
to teach courses in both the School’s graduate and undergraduate
programs,
supervise fieldwork placements and internships, and participate
in other
professional services.
Applicants should
have a strong background in one or more of the following:
metadata, information
architecture, linked data, or cataloging.
SOIS invites applications from candidates who have a
strong background
and interest in both information organization and information
technology.
SOIS is
committed to
both onsite and online education; demonstrated ability in the
design and
delivery of courses in a variety of formats is highly desirable.
Applicants
must be able to teach the required undergraduate course
“Organization of Knowledge”
and in at least one other area in their field of expertise at
the undergraduate
and graduate levels. Applicants should
demonstrate the potential to serve in an advisory capacity and
to work closely
with students (onsite and online).
SOIS offers a competitive salary for a nine-month appointment and generous fringe benefits. The School also provides extensive support in the form of travel and professional development funding.
Required Qualifications:
1. MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
2. Professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Extensive experience in information organization.
2. Teaching experience (onsite and online).
3. Ability to teach in areas related to information organization.
4. Course design experience.
5. Evidence of student mentorship.
6. Knowledge of current theory and practice in information organization.
7. The potential for working with allied areas within SOIS.
8. Familiarity with both domestic and international developments in information organization.

Alumni have obtained permanent positions with such institutions as the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the Huntington Library.
SOIS hosts three internal research groups: the Research Group for Information Retrieval, Information Organization Research Group, and the Social Studies of Information Research Group.
