Denison University seeks a dynamic leader with a strong vision of the
future of academic libraries who will be passionate about furthering
our history of innovation. We are looking for a colleague who will
support and lead a team of service-oriented, user-focused, and
collegial staff working collaboratively with the entire campus
community to promote and advance the educational mission of the
college. S/he should have proven successes in supervision, budget
management and staff development as well as familiarity with
developing and assessing library educational programs. Our ideal
candidate will embrace emerging twenty-first-century tools and
technologies for teaching and learning and move the library forward in
the areas of digital asset management and scholarly publishing.

Our successful candidate should have the ability to adapt to a wide
variety of local and consortial procedures and projects. The Denison
University Libraries staff is composed of nine professional librarians
and fifteen support staff members. We are actively involved in The
Five Colleges of Ohio, the Oberlin Group and OhioLINK. The director
acts as the library’s liaison with each of these consortia. The
libraries share a combined catalog, CONSORT, with Kenyon College, Ohio
Wesleyan University and the College of Wooster. Denison
UniversityLibrary and Kenyon College Library have a joint Collection
Services Group.

Denison University is a nationally ranked, residential liberal arts
college located in scenic Granville, OH, twenty-five miles east of the
Columbus metropolitan area. We are committed to fostering an
academically and culturally diverse community.

Required:
Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited institution or a Ph.D. in a
related field, and significant experience in all areas of library
operations.

A track record of progressively more responsible administrative
experience, preferably in an academic library, with an emphasis on
strategic planning, budget management, and staff development

Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.

Working knowledge of laws and policies relevant to academic and
research libraries.

Preferred:
Five years of relevant administrative experience in an academic library

A second master’s or doctorate degree

Proven success in innovation in modern library operations

Demonstrated knowledge of information technology as it relates to
libraries and the ability to effectively communicate with
technologists, administration, and library staff about technology
