Next week - Thursday, Jan. 24, 3:30 - 5 pm, Toyota Auditorium - the Energy & Environment Forum returns for the spring semester. "Rethinking Urbanization and Sustainability: Lessons from China and India" will be presented by Dr. Karen Seto, from the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University. Over the next two decades, China’s urban population is expected to increase by 400 million and India’s urban population will nearly double from today’s 350 million. During this same period, China will create at least 30 new cities of 1 million; India is expected to add 26 cities of this size. Is urbanization of this scale a problem or solution for sustainability? Drawing on more than a decade of studies, this talk will compare the drivers and patterns of urbanization in these two countries and discuss the challenges and opportunities for transitioning to sustainability. Free & open to the public.
