The Williamson County Government Main Library is accepting applications for a part-time Children's Librarian Assistant. Nights and weekends required, approximately 20 hours a week. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting weekly story times for the toddlers and preschoolers, assisting with homework research and computer help, providing recommendations for pleasure reading, purchasing high quality/age appropriate book materials for children, planning and conducting children’s craft programs, reference assistance and reader’s advisory.

Job Description

Position Summary:

To monitor the fiscal performance of the Libraries and Contract Information Services.  Also, engage in innovative fundraising activities. To supervise library staff to maintain Workforce Excellence. To provide patient and job related information to RGHS staff and affiliated personnel, including Medical Staff. (Reference Librarian). To educate RGHS staff and affiliated personnel about information accessing procedures, including Library databases and the Internet. (Education Librarian). To promote the contract information services to maintain a stable base for present services and expand to new customers. To provide medical information to the general public, especially patients and families at RGHS facilities

 

Duties and Responsibilities (job may require all or most of the following):

  • To monitor the fiscal performance of the Libraries and Contract Information Services.  Also, engage in innovative fundraising activities
  • Manage Library Budgets to maintain expenditures within budgeted amounts in Werner Library, Stabins Library and in Circuit Librarian Program
  • Manage funds in Gannett Fund, in Friends of Library Funds and in RGHF funds designated for Wellness Information Center. Recommend expenditures to fit within the guidelines for expenditure for these funds.
  • Solicit grant funding for specific library activities, especially Wellness Information Center.
  • Investigate participating in community-wide resources to reduce costs
  • Supervises library staff to maintain Workforce Excellence
  • Use TQM techniques to empower staff
  • Maintain salaries within community standards
  • Provides information to RGHS personnel and Medical Staff.
  • Computer Searching
  • Determines person’s needs either through a direct interview or by a request submitted in writing.
  • Formulates search strategy and selects appropriate databases on which to run the search.
  • Submits list of documents to be ordered to the Library Assistant.
  • Delivers searches with written explanations within specified time frame. 
  • Records searching statistics in search log following completion of search.
  • Manual Searching
  • Determines person’s needs either through a direct interview or by a request submitted in writing.
  • Determines proper medium to be used.
  • Delivers within specified time frame appropriate books, journals, audiovisuals, photocopies from appropriate indexes, etc.
  • Submits list of documents to be ordered to the Library Assistant.                         
  • Educates RGHS staff and affiliates about information access procedures
  • Gives formal classes as well as informal instructions on accessing Library databases and the Internet.
  • Gives instructions on use of computers for accessing information, including dial-in procedures and computer software instructions.
  • Promotes the contract information services to maintain a stable base for present services and expand to new customers.
  • Provides overall direction for the Wellness Information Center services to the general public in the 9 county greater Rochester area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MLS, MSLS, or equivalent degree in Library Science or Information Science from an accredited program.  AHIP credentialing preferred.
  • 5+ years of previous Library work experience, plus some experience with computer networking, database searching, and budgeting.
  • Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills
