Position Availability: Director, School of Library and Information Studies The Florida State University The Florida State University School of Library and Information Studies (http://slis.fsu.edu<http://slis.fsu.edu/>) invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the full professor level to serve as the Director of the School. Salary is negotiable; the position is a 9-month academic-year appointment with the expectation of a 3-month summer appointment. Applicants must have excellent administrative, research, and teaching abilities. They must demonstrate a history of productive scholarship, administrative leadership, and a strong commitment to faculty governance. FSU's School of Library and Information Studies, situated within the College of Communication and Information, is a leader in the education of digital-age information technology specialists and librarians and is widely recognized for its pioneering role in the areas of web-based graduate LIS education and undergraduate information technology education. Bachelor's, Master's in Library and Information Studies, Master's in Information Technology, Specialist, and Ph.D. degrees are offered on campus; the Master's in Library and Information Studies, Master's in Information Technology, and Specialist degrees are also offered online. The ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Studies curriculum includes concentrations in information needs and services, information architecture and technology, and youth information needs and services. The School Library Media program is also accredited by NCATE. The Master's in Information Technology offers concentrations in technology & networking, large-scale data management, user-centered design, web design, and leadership & management. The Bachelor's degree in Information Technology focuses on building students' skills in developing and implementing appropriate technology-based solutions to support information management and facilitate effective communication within organizations. The School currently enrolls approximately 40 doctoral, 570 master's and specialist, and 270 undergraduate students. All tenure-line faculty are expected to seek external funding to support their research. Minimum Qualifications: Earned Doctorate in library/information studies or in a relevant discipline. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of achievement in higher education administration, academic research, teaching, and service. Applicants must meet University criteria for appointment to the rank of full professor as appropriate. Additional Qualifications: Applicants are expected to demonstrate a range of administrative and professional skills including: * School, College, and University leadership; * Advocacy for the School and College; * High quality social and communication skills; * Successful experience in academic program planning, development, and assessment - both with face-to-face and distance learning; * Financial planning and analysis; * Fund raising; and * Leadership and involvement in appropriate professional associations.
