The University at Buffalo invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Library and Information Studies. The Department of Library and Information Studies<http://gse.buffalo.edu/lis> resides in the Graduate School of Education. The starting date of the position is August 1, 2013.
The Graduate School of Education seeks a Chair who can strategically develop and lead the LIS Department and its diverse stakeholders into the future through a shared vision that maximizes the Department’s strategic strengths, resources and opportunities. The Chair will also be responsible for supporting the development of pre-tenured and tenured faculty. Successful applicants will have credentials commensurate with those of an Associate or Full Professor.
Qualifications of successful candidates include:
· Doctorate in library and information science or a related discipline
· Prior leadership and administrative experience with budgets and personnel
· Experience in obtaining and managing external funding
· Research agenda in information management with an emphasis in at least one of the following areas:
* Information technology (e.g., data mining/visualization, information architecture)
* Management/administration (e.g., business administration, organizational leadership)
* Competitive intelligence
* User-centered design
* Information policy, law & ethics
Applicants with experience in multidisciplinary collaboration are preferred.

As part of the MLS, we also offer a Library Media Specialist concentration; In addition, we offer an MLS/JD (Law) Dual Major, MLS/MA (music) Dual Major and an Advanced Studies Certificate.
