Registration for the December 19 Talking Freight seminar on Freight Academy Capstone Projects is now available.

Description: The Freight Academy, a week-long immersion program, is designed to efficiently train public sector agency staff involved in planning, operational, and/or management work that impact goods movement decisions, investments and interactions. Participants are provided unique opportunities to see and learn about the inner workings of the goods movement system, including maritime terminals, the distribution centers of major corporations, air cargo operations, trucking operations, and rail operations.
At the beginning of the immersion week, participants are divided into smaller capstone teams and given an assignment. Capstone projects require the integration of the material gathered throughout the week in both classroom sessions and field visits. Following the immersion week, capstone groups continue to collaborate remotely to complete a written document and presentation. The presentation is presented to leaders in the field who serve as a mock executive board. During this seminar, Freight Academy staff will be joined by past participants to provide an overview of a completed capstone project. This will be followed by a discussion of the benefits of the capstone experience for participants, and how the capstone model can be used as a capacity building tool in other contexts.
