Communicators,

It's commencement time once again, and we wanted to share what the Office of Communications & Marketing is planning with regard to social media communications—particularly given the enthusiastic adoption of social media as a means of communication during the May 2012 commencement exercises and the success we experienced (particularly on Twitter) both reaching out to and hearing back from students as they make this memorable transition to the ranks of UT alumni.

Once again, we'll be encouraging UT graduates to share their stories and photos with us on our Facebook wall and also via Twitter by including the hashtag #UTgrad2012 with their tweets. This hashtag will help us all to aggregate commencement-related tweets and keep track of experiences and questions from the UT community. If your unit uses Twitter, we encourage you to use the #UTgrad2012 hashtag for your commencement-related tweets. 

Our commencement website can be found at www.utk.edu/commencement, and we'll be using it to collect tweets with the #UTgrad2012 hashtag and stream live video from commencement exercises. You can find a commencement schedule and links to the video feeds on our ceremony schedule page.

We hope you already follow us on social media, but in case you don't, the official UT Facebook account can be found at http://www.facebook.com/UTKnoxville, and our Twitter handle is @UTKnoxville. If you haven't already done so, please e-mail [log in to unmask] and let us know which social media outlets your units are currently using. We try to follow and "like" as many UT units as we find, but we may miss a few. Also, if you're planning to use social media in other creative ways during commencement week, please let us know so we can help spread the word!
