Archives Faculty Position 




The School of Information Studies (SOIS), the iSchool at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (UWM), invites applications for a full-time tenured/tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Archival Studies, with a specialty in digital curation, electronic records, or other technology-driven area. The selected applicant should be prepared to teach courses in both the School’s graduate and undergraduate programs. 




SOIS is committed to both onsite and online education; demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats is highly desirable. Applicants must be able to teach the required course “Introduction to Modern Archives Administration” and in at least one other practice area. 




Applicants should demonstrate the potential to serve in an advisory capacity and to work closely with students (onsite and online) to secure fieldwork positions. 

SOIS offers a competitive salary and generous fringe benefits. The School also provides extensive research support in the form of travel funding, research assistance, and internal research grant programs. 




Required Qualifications: 

1. Ph.D. in Information Studies or related field by the beginning of the contract term. 

2. MLIS or master’s in related field. 

3. Experience in digital curation, electronic records and recordkeeping, or other technological developments in the field. 




Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Evidence of quality in teaching and research. 

2. Ability to teach across archival practice areas. 

3. Teaching experience (onsite and online). 

4. Course design experience. 

5. Evidence of student advisement/mentorship. 

6. Familiarity with both domestic and international developments in Archival Studies. 

7. Evidence of or potential for robust research.

Archives Teaching Academic Staff Position 








The School of Information Studies (SOIS), the iSchool at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (UWM), invites applications for a full-time twelve-month Teaching Academic Staff position in Archival Studies. The selected applicant should be prepared to teach courses in both the School’s graduate and undergraduate programs, supervise fieldwork placements, and participate in other professional services. Applicants should have a strong background in archival or records management practice along with the ability to conceptualize and teach the field. SOIS invites applications from all candidates but is particularly interested in candidates who can complement and/or supplement the archival studies program’s existing efforts in community and international engagement, outreach to distance students, and the breadth of traditional professional practice.

Alumni have obtained permanent positions with such institutions as the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the Huntington Library. 




SOIS hosts three internal research groups: the Research Group for Information Retrieval, Information Organization Research Group, and the Social Studies of Information Research Group.
