UW-Milwaukee, SOIS Partners with Wisconsin Library Association to Provide Educational Opportunities for Paralibrarians

The Wisconsin Library Association (WLA) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Information Studies (SOIS) is now accepting nominations for their newly created Paralibrarian of the Year Award. The Award was created to recognize the contributions made by paralibrarians and support staff, and to help them further their education. The winner will be eligible for a scholarship to aid in the completion of a bachelor’s of science degree in Information Science and Technology or a Master of Library and Information Science degree through UWM SOIS.

The Wisconsin Library Association Paralibrarian of the Year Award recognizes the essential role of paralibrarians, including all library support staff, who do not currently have an MLIS in providing excellent library service in Wisconsin. This award places special emphasis on efforts to further the role of paralibrarians and library support staff in the library profession.

The UWM School of Information Studies is thrilled to partner with WLA in support of Wisconsin’s library support staff. Statements made by Interim Dean Dr. Wooseob Jeong reflect the enthusiasm felt by SOIS faculty and staff; “Paralibrarians are driving forces in many libraries, both big and small. As a leading LIS program in the US, SOIS is very proud to support the educational pursuits of future MLIS professionals in the state of Wisconsin."
