Need another class -- the Geography of FOOD (Geog 309) Geog 309: the Geography of FOOD

This new course will be offered for the first time in spring 2013
(MWF 2:30–3:20 pm, BGB 101) by Professor Carol Harden.  The course is still open; you can still register for it this week!  It is a 3-credit course.

Would you like to know more about nutrients-- where foods come from--the water and carbon “footprints” of foods—terroir (what’s that?)—local foods—food industries—food deserts?  In the Geography of FOOD, we will explore geographical aspects of food, food production, and food consumption? Topics will include environmental controls and environmental effects of food production, cultural/geographical differences in food, and issues associated with future food security around the world.  The class format will be a mixture of hands (and mouths)-on activities, lecture, discussion, and small group activities.
