The School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank with a starting date of July 1, 2013.  The School offers the Master of Science in Library Science, Master of Science in Information Science, Doctor of Philosophy, and Bachelor of Science in Information Science degrees.  The School also offers an undergraduate minor in information science, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Information and Library Science, and a variety of graduate certificates and dual degrees (see http://sils.unc.edu for details).

The faculty seeks an outstanding colleague with primary research and 
teaching interests in fundamental library services such as information 
resources and reference services, user education, collection development, 
management, assessment and evidence-based practice, organization of 
materials, and scholarly communication. Professional experience in 
libraries and related settings will be considered an asset.

Faculty are expected to engage in research, teach, advise students, 
participate in School, University, and professional activities, and 
otherwise share their expertise at both undergraduate and graduate levels, 
including work with doctoral students. Candidates should be excited by and 
able to thrive in an intellectually stimulating multi-disciplinary 
environment. Those with fresh and innovative ideas, a commitment to 
professional engagement, and an appreciation for cultural diversity are 
encouraged to apply.

An earned doctorate is required at the time of employment.  Candidates 
should provide evidence of research and teaching excellence, and potential 
for leadership in their area of expertise.  Salary will be commensurate 
with qualifications.
