Please disseminate by colleagues, researchers, students, etc. Thanks a lot! ********************************************************************************** WorldCIST'13 The 2013 World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies March 27 - 30, Algarve, Portugal http://www.aisti.eu/worldcist13/ ********************************************************************************** SCOPE The 2013 World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (WorldCIST'13: http://www.aisti.eu/worldcist13/) is a global forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, results, experiences and concerns in the several perspectives of Information Systems and Technologies. We are pleased to invite you to submit your papers to WorldCISTI'13. All submissions will be reviewed on the basis of relevance, originality, importance and clarity. THEMES Submitted papers should be related with one or more of the main themes proposed for the Conference: A) Information and Knowledge Management (IKM); B) Organizational Models and Information Systems (OMIS); C) Intelligent and Decision Support Systems (IDSS); D) Software Systems, Architectures, Applications and Tools (SSAAT); E) Computer Networks, Mobility and Pervasive Systems (CNMPS); F) Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS AND DECISIONS Four types of papers can be submitted: Full paper: Finished or consolidated R&D works, to be included in one of the Conference themes. These papers are assigned a 10-page limit. Short paper: Ongoing works with relevant preliminary results, open to discussion. These papers are assigned a 7-page limit. Poster paper: Initial work with relevant ideas, open to discussion. These papers are assigned to a 4-page limit. Company paper: Companies' papers that show practical experience, R & D, tools, etc., focused on some topics of the conference. These papers are assigned to a 4-page limit. Submitted papers must comply with the format of Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing Series (see http://www.aisti.eu/worldcist13/springerformat.doc) be written in English, must not have been published before, not be under review for any other conference or publication and not include any information leading to the authors’ identification. Therefore, the authors’ names, affiliations and bibliographic references should not be included in the version for evaluation by the Program Committee. This information should only be included in the camera-ready version. All papers will be subjected to a “double-blind review” by at least two members of the Program Committee. Based on Program Committee evaluation, a paper can be rejected or accepted by the Conference Chairs. In the later case, it can be accepted as the type originally submitted or as another type. Thus, full papers can be accepted as short papers or poster papers only. Similarly, short papers can be accepted as poster papers only. In these cases, the authors will be allowed to maintain the original number of pages in the camera-ready version. The authors of accepted poster papers must also build and print a poster to be exhibited during the Conference. This poster must follow an A1 or A2 vertical format. The Conference includes Work Sessions where these posters are presented and orally discussed, with a 5 minute limit per poster. The authors of accepted full papers will have 15 minutes to present their work in a Conference Work Session; approximately 5 minutes of discussion will follow each presentation. The authors of accepted short papers and company papers will have 11 minutes to present their work in a Conference Work Session; approximately 4 minutes of discussion will follow each presentation. PUBLICATION AND INDEXING To ensure that a full paper, short paper, poster paper or company paper is published in the Proceedings, at least one of the authors must be fully registered by the 11th of January 2013, and the paper must comply with the suggested layout and page-limit. Additionally, all recommended changes must be addressed by the authors before they submit the camera-ready version. No more than one paper per registration will be published in the Conference Proceedings. An extra fee must be paid for publication of additional papers, with a maximum of two additional papers per registration. Full and short papers will be published in Proceedings by Springer, in Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing Series. Poster and company papers will be published in Proceedings by AISTI. Published full and short papers will be indexed by ISI, EI-Compendex, SCOPUS, DBLP and EBSCO, among others, and will be available in the SpringerLink Digital Library. Published poster and company papers will be indexed in EI-Compendex and EBSCO. The authors of the best selected papers will be invited to extend them for publication in edited books and in international journals indexed by ISI/JCR, SCOPUS and/or DBLP, among others, such as: - ACM Transactions on Modeling and Computer Simulation (TOMACS) - Online Information Review (OIR) - Computer Science and Information Systems (ComSIS) - Telecommunication Systems Journal (TSJ) - INFORMATION - An International Interdisciplinary Journal - Journal of Organizational and End User Computing (JOEUC) - Information Researh (IR) - International Journal of Internet Protocol Technology (IJIPT) - Studies in Computational Intelligence (SCI) - Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics (JACIII) - Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (JECE): Special Issue in Advances in Radar Technology - WSEAS Transactions on Systems (TS) - Library Review (LR) - Education for Information (EI) - International Journal of IT/Business Alignment and Governance (IJITBAG) - International Journal of Systems and Service-Oriented Engineering (IJSSOE) - International Journal of Interactive Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence (IJIMAI) IMPORTANT DATES Paper Submission: November 18, 2012 Notification of Acceptance: December 30, 2012 Camera-ready Submission: January 9, 2013 Payment of Registration, to ensure the inclusion of an accepted paper in the conference proceedings: January 11, 2013. --- Kind regards, Maria Lemos WorldCIST'13 http://www.aisti.eu/worldcist13/ ---559023410-758783491-1351380324=:2658-- ========================================================================Date: Sat, 27 Oct 2012 19:33:14 -0400 Reply-To: Open Lib/Info Sci Education Forum <[log in to unmask]> Sender: Open Lib/Info Sci Education Forum <[log in to unmask]> From: Gretchen Whitney <[log in to unmask]> Subject: 2013 Student Publishing Opportunity (fwd) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="-559023410-959030623-1351380794=:2658" ---559023410-959030623-1351380794=:2658 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1"; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: QUOTED-PRINTABLE Rec'd w/ technical glitch. --gw Date: Thu, 25 Oct 2012 10:25:54 -0400 From: NANCY HODGE DEWALD <[log in to unmask]> Public Services Quarterly's column, ˙˙Future Voices in Public Services,˙˙ is a forum for students in graduate library and information science programs to discuss key issues they see in academic library public services, to envision what they feel librarians in public service have to offer to academia, to tell us of their visions for the profession, or to tell us of research that is going on in library schools. I am looking for faculty who are willing to spend 30 minutes at ALISE with individuals to give feedback on their CVs. I imagine giving feedback on how well the CV presents the applicant for a job, how you would view their CV if they were applying at your school, and general advice about how their current achievements situate them in terms of getting a first job, getting tenure, etc. I would expect that discussions would also touch on job hunting, interviewing, and career advice. I will try to get CVs sent to you ahead of time, and to assign individuals to you who seem a good fit. However, I hear there are likely to be drop-ins as well, so be prepared to receive last minute requests. The session is planned for Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 from 1-4pm. Please let me know you are interested by sending me an email. Taking place under the slogan: "Information Sciences between Virtual Infrastructure and Material Lifeworlds", the symposium will run from the 19th to the 22nd of March 2013 and seek to explore the bridging between traditional computer science topics and new approaches from interface design, activity theory and cognitive science. Keynote presentations from the likes of /Diane Sonnenwald,/ President of the symposium's US-American association partner, /Alfio M. Gliozzo/ from the IBM Watson Research Center and well-known technological futurologist /Alan N. Shapiro/ will introduce the key topics. The conference programme will comprise more than 10 topics blocks for which long and short papers, panel discussion, posters and student/doctoral thesis presentations can be submitted up until the 29th of October 2012 via the symposium website at www.isi2013.de. The latest research findings from the various fields of the information sciences in Germany and internationally will feature and highlight the progression the information sciences have undergone over the last two years, while an anonymous approval process conducted by proven national and international specialists guarantees a symposium of outstanding quality. English-language papers are welcome, and the conference languages are German and English. The highlight of the symposium has often been the awarding of the Gerhard Lustig Prize, named after one of the founders of information science in Germany, for the best student thesis on information science from 2011-- 2012. The selected papers will receive their accolades at a special evening event. To coincide with ISI2013, various information science events will take place at FH Potsdam immediately prior to and following the symposium: the annual conference of the German chapter of the International Society for Knowledge Organisation (ISKO), FH Potsdam's yearly I-Science Day organised in collaboration with the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI e.V.) and "frei<tag>", the BarCamp from library sciences e-journal LIBREAS. Further information on the conference can be found at www.isi2013.de. Please also note that this research presentation WILL be available at a distance (see below). Dr. Genuis is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Health Promotion Studies in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. She will giving a public research presentation during her visit: Monday, November 5, 2012 - 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm CST - RESEARCH PRESENTATION in Gorgas Library room 503 Understanding Information Behaviour in Palliative Care: Arguing for Exploring Diverse and Multiple Overlapping Contexts Because of rapid internet and media communication of research findings, consumers are confronted on a regular basis with new and/or changing medical evidence. This presents a challenge not only to health professionals seeking to deliver evidence-based clinical care, but also to individuals engaged in personal health management. Set in a context where evidence is explicitly evolving, this presentation explores self-positioning within consumer accounts of health information seeking. It also examines how individuals experience, interact with and integrate uncertain health information mediated by the many formal and informal sources which consumers encounter or seek as they make health decisions. Findings have implications for shared patient-clinician decision making and health literacy. BB Collaborate session for participating in this Colloquium from a distance: http://tinyurl.com/9h697lk.

Facebook event page (please share with your FB friends!)
Event tweet (please retweet to your Twitter followers!)
University of Alabama events page

Final speaker in the SLIS Research Colloquia Series this fall:

<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Wednesday, November 14, Noon – 1:00 pm in Gorgas Library Room 503 (link to more info)

<![if !supportLists]>o <![endif]>Dr. Michael Ollson, Senior Lecturer in the Communication Studies Group at the University of Technology, Sydney
‘Knowledge is Power’ – More than a Bumper Sticker: Foucault, Power/Knowledge and Critical Discourse Analysis in Information Research
Link to more information

--

Steven L.
