Full Salary Range $25.48 - $35.02/hour, No Guaranteed Hours South District Libraries, WA

 

North District Libraries: This position may substitute up to 19 hours per week and no more than 69 hours per month to cover regular staff absences at the Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace and Mukilteo libraries and may require mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Willingness to work widely varying hours (sometimes on short notice) is essential. To ensure maximum flexibility, an individual in this position may not hold another Sno-Isle position concurrently.

 

§ Provide and assist customers with general reader’s advisory, reference services, and usage of library facilities and services

§ Explain and demonstrate procedures and methods for bibliographic and reference searches

§ Maintain and develop reference materials and sources

§ Plan and present pre-school and children’s programming (training provided)

 

Requires competent knowledge of library materials; Library District policies and procedures; integrated library computer system; materials selection process; reader’s advisory; bibliographic search techniques, and reference tools.

Requires the ability to use a bar code reader, computer equipment, Internet and standard office equipment; speak, understand and write English clearly and concisely; conduct reference interviews; work cooperatively and maintain favorable relations with the public and co-workers.

 

Requires a Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university, plus two years’ experience as a professional level librarian and have or be able to obtain a Washington State Librarian Certificate.

 

 

PUBLIC SERVICES ASSISTANT II

This position may include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours including Sundays. The successful candidate for this position will be flexible, creative in a busy environment, and demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills. The candidate may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs.

 

§ Issue library materials using the integrated library computer system; reserve materials for customers

§ Provide readers’ advisory services; assist customers in computer or network-based searches for reference materials at a basic level

§ Verify customer residency information and register customers for library cards

§ Provide frontline troubleshooting, diagnosis and minor repair of hardware and software; work with library staff to report equipment problems and resolution to IT via phone or in person

§ Change or add to software configurations as directed by IT staff; coordinate and maintain IT report files

§ Configure and install new or replacement computer equipment and parts as instructed by IT staff

§ Open and close building; assist in maintaining circulation areas in a neat, clean and orderly condition
