A recent bibliometric analysis by Judit Bar-Ilan revealed that among 1,459 papers published between 2001 and 2010 in the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (JASIST), a paper authored by iSchool Associate Professor Chaomei Chen was rated as the fifth top-cited paper according to citation counts in the Web of Science and in SciVerse Scopus (the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature).

The 2006 JASIST paper, titled “CiteSpace II: Detecting and visualizing emerging trends and transient patterns in scientific literature,” introduced CiteSpace II—an application developed by Dr. Chen that visualizes and analyzes trends and patterns in scientific literature. The paper is also the 5th top-read JASIST article according to Mendeley reader counts, and the third top-cited paper according to Google Scholar.
