4.     have fun working with other class members as a team!

Geography 518: GIS Project Management

This class simulates a real-world work environment to define, design, and implement two GIS application projects that are selected and defined by the class members.  The main course objective is to develop knowledge and skills of implementing successful GIS projects in the real world.  Each class member will play a major role in one of the three teams formed at the beginning of this class – Management team, Application team, and Technical team.

Class discussions and interactions will take place both within and between the teams. TEAM WORK is essential to the success of this class.  Each class meeting will run like a real world project meeting, and the instructor will act as a consultant to the class.

Class members will collectively choose two GIS application projects that will be implemented during the semester.  Each application project will cover a full process from project specification, planning, design, development, implementation, documentation, reports, to final project presentations.  ArcGIS software will be used to implement the class projects.

Can I Take This Class?

Graduate and undergraduate students who have taken Geography 411 (Introduction to GIS) or equivalent courses are welcome to take this class.  Each class member can choose the specific aspect (i.e., management, application, or technical) that she/he wants to contribute to this class while all class members can learn from each other in all three aspects.  It’s a class designed for team work and group learning.  This class is scheduled at 5:05 – 7:45 PM on Wednesday in the spring semester of 2013.
