JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Continuing Education Coordinator
Tennessee Department of State, Tennessee State Library and Archives, Planning and Development Section
 
Mission: The mission of the Office of the Secretary of State is to exceed the expectations of our customers, the taxpayers, by operating at the highest levels of accuracy, cost-effectiveness and accountability in a customer-centered environment.
 
Under the direction of the Director of Regional Libraries, the Coordinato is responsible for coordinating, administering, and implementing library continuing education opportunities for library administration and staff throughout the state.
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
 Develops and maintains the planning, organization, and development of State Library sponsored training activities.
 Creates and delivers original content using a variety of delivery methods, including but not limited to Adobe Connect, Camtasia, and on-site, face-to-face training.
 Works with other government and private agencies to increase CE opportunities for Tennessee librarians, developing and managing programs in conjunction with them to meet shared goals.
 Oversees the Public Library Management Institute, developing curriculum, securing speakers, managing the week-long event, and communicating with participants.
 Maximize the impact of CE opportunities through a custom strategic marketing plan.
 Develops in-person and on-line training modules for workshop presentations.
 Works as part of a team of consultants to coordinate planning and development of library training events.
 Develops and oversees a periodic assessment of staff development needs and effectiveness of current programs for the library community.
 Compiles and updates lists of speakers available to provide continuing education instruction for multi-type libraries.
 Works with other State Library staff in achieving objectives of the State Library’s long-range plan. Participates in the strategic planning and implementation of State Library sponsored statewide programs and the identification of potential partners.
 Provides CE reports as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
 A Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited university and three years of professional library experience.
 Demonstrated experience in developing library and/or information communication technology training sessions of various types to engage an audience and to effectively convey information and teach skills.
 Excellent 21st communications skills and substantive computer experience are required, including experience with webinar and online training development.
 
Knowledge and Abilities:
 Possesses a commitment to excellent customer service by anticipating the needs of internal and external customers and partners, and assist them in meeting those needs.
 Knowledge of the basic principles of library services and programs.
 Familiarity with current library practices in multi-type libraries.
 Knowledge of the rules and regulations that apply to the Library Services and Technology Act and continuing education programs.
 Ability to organize time effectively to manage a variety of projects simultaneously; ability to communicate effectively with public officials, library trustees, librarians, representatives of other state departments, and colleagues.
 Extensive travel is required.
 
Salary: $3,750 per month plus State of Tennessee benefits package.
