Internship in Digital Curation at the
U.S. Food & Drug Administration
The
U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA)'s Center for Devices and Radiological
Health (CDRH) seeks a mid-program Library & Information Science graduate
student for an unpaid internship to support the development of the CDRH
Knowledge Hub Dspace repository during the Fall 2012 semester.
The
CDRH Knowledge Hub is a pilot research project to develop an institutional
repository for Office of Surveillance and Biometrics (OSB) internal information
objects related to medical devices.
This
is a quarter-time or part-time position located on the FDA White Oak campus in
Silver Spring, Maryland. The internship offers the
opportunity to gain first-hand experience in digital curation and repository
administration in a federal health information environment, with the option for
academic credit.
Work Needed: Assist two librarians in the curation of digital
content for inclusion in the repository according to established metadata
standards and best practices.
Qualifications: Functional competency in Dublin Core Metadata
Initiative standards; working knowledge of bibliographic utilities and
repository platforms; working knowledge of current digital preservation
practices and tools; completed or concurrent coursework in digital collections,
metadata, or curation; a professional interest in health information or eScience
is preferred.
