One Graduate Research Assistant position is available for working on an IMLS funded research project about Open Source Integrated Library Systems with Dr. Vandana Singh, School of Information Sciences.
The IMLS GRA will work on the Drupal information portal for the project (www.opensourceils.com) and will be an integral part of a team helping a consortium of libraries in Virginia. The team
is responsible for helping the consortium in migrating to Evergreen, an open source Integrated Library System.
The activities related to Drupal site will include
(1)
Publicizing the information portal to the librarians interested in open source software
(2)
Attending conferences and publicizing the information portal
(3)
Creating Publicity Material
The activities related to helping the consortium will include
(1)
Attending meetings with the consortium personnel
(2)
Using the existing resources from the project to guide the consortium
(3)
Troubleshooting / analyzing problems that they might have
The GRA will need the following skills:
(1)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
(2)
Experience in using, evaluating, assessing technology related to libraries
(3)
Interest in learning about open source software
This is a 10 hour a week, 12-month position and includes tuition reimbursement for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013, health insurance, and a monthly stipend. The position will begin immediately.
