This position is located in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  You will serve as a student trainee receiving on-the-job training to assess the CFPB’s reference and information needs in the areas of research, law, and general consumer finance information.  You will perform assignments under the close supervision of a higher level analyst. This position is being filled under CFPB's excepted service authority.

  • This appointment is being filled under the Pathways Program.
  • Upon successful completion of the program, CFPB may noncompetitively convert an Intern, who is a U.S. citizen, to a term or permanent appointment in the competitive service.

The major duties of this position include:

  • Inventory, catalog, arrange, preserve and research a backlog of copyright or special collections materials in many different formats.
  • Review a variety of materials to determine historical importance and scarcity
  • Make recommendations to senior management on what materials should be retained, archived, or removed
  • Develop an electronic tracking system to catalog all materials

You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment. 

The definition of a student is: an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93–842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program.  

Education may be substituted for experience as described in “Qualifications.”

Specialized Experience for the CN-30 level:  You must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the CN-22 level in the Federal service.  (For qualification purposes, CN-22 is broadly equivalent to GS-3.)  For this position, specialized experience is defined as: experience that demonstrates knowledge of analytical methods and techniques.  Examples of qualifying experience include: conducting research, data analysis, or data quality control for an organization regarding their reference and information needs; and drafting reports, briefings, talking points and/or presentations to management.

OR

Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.

The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainee will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval position.

The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
