Job Description

Our Community Outreach Team finds new potential members for SocialMedia.org
and encourages them to join our unique community. You'll track down kindred
spirits, help them understand what we do, and get them involved. You enjoy
the research, the hunt, and the fun of finding folks like us. You're a
talker with endless curiosity for people, and love sharing the passion for
what you do.

You're also a focused researcher who can dig deep on the web, track down
leads, and find hard-to-find information. You're systematic and
process-driven in your hunt. You can get what you find into our database,
accurately and smartly, so we can act on the information that you find.

You don't need to be an expert on social media -- but you have to talk the
talk with senior executives at big companies and have informed and credible
conversations with them about current events in social media.

*What We Do: *At SocialMedia.org, we help the heads of social media at the
biggest companies be great at what they do. Our members are 225 of the
greatest brands in the world, and you'll work with their social media teams
every day. Members include McDonald's, Cisco, P&G, Wells Fargo, Microsoft,
3M, Home Depot, and more (see them all at http://socialmedia.org/members).

We believe that companies that learn to engage and communicate with their
customers become better companies. We believe that companies that use
social media treat us better: They learn to care, to listen, to make better
products, and to serve the customer. The people who step up to lead these
initiatives inside big companies have a tough job. We help these good guys
win by surrounding them with a community of peers who understand their
challenges and support them.

Your job is to find people who should be members of our group, make
contact, and become their friend. We hate the idea of "lead generation" and
"customer acquisition." We love the idea that there are hundreds of
executives in the social media business who would benefit greatly from
being a part of this group but don't yet know we exist. Help us find them
and welcome them into our truly awesome experience.

*What We Don't Do:* We're not social media consultants or an agency. We
don't do social media training or campaigns. We're not looking for social
media gurus or marketers. You don't need be an expert on social media; you
do need to be great at working with those who are. If you're interested in
becoming a social media expert or building your public presence, this isn't
the right job for you.

*Your job*
* Monitor and track everything that is happening in social media at big
brands
* Identify future members and reasons we should reach out to them
* Contact them by email, phone, or social media and start a relationship
* Credibly talk the talk of social media as it is used in big companies
* Consistently update and maintain detailed records in our database

*You*

* Informed and up-to-date about social media -- specifically how big
companies use it
* Passionate about the social media industry
* Comfortable talking with senior executives at big companies
* Fantastic writing and communications skills
* Excellent at asking questions and really listening
* A storyteller
* Use social media for business and your personal social media presence is
professional
* A systematic, focused researcher, who is a perfectionist about detailed
record-keeping
* Experience with lead-generation, donor development, member recruiting, or
community building a plus
* Completely confident and comfortable with office computing, including
web-based apps (extra credit for experience with online databases like
Salesforce.com)
* Love to pick up the phone and talk about what you do
* An organizer, encourager, and motivator -- you bring people together
* Mission-driven: You want to see the team win because you believe in what
we're doing
* Embrace a small company culture (bonus: experience at a high-performing
small business)
* High levels of energy, drive, enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, good
humor, and commitment
* Honest, trustworthy, and ethical
* Nice to work with

*Some important details*
How to get this job: All applications must be submitted through our online
job site (gaspedal.com/jobs). We want to see a great cover letter, resume,
and anything else that shows us how you think and work. Show us what you've
done and how you can do it for us. Show us you're someone we'd enjoy
working with -- that you're someone with a great personality backed up by
real skill.
Location: This is a full-time, in-the-office position based in Chicago or
Austin. No relocation assistance is provided, and we're not hiring
telecommuters.
Compensation: We pay slightly better than average, with decent benefits, a
great health plan, and profit sharing. We're never going to have an IPO or
sell out to a bigger company -- we're in this for the long term.

*What it's like to work with us*
Learn all about our company culture at gaspedal.com/life. We're quirky, so
you should read it carefully before you apply.

We spend our days helping the good guys win. We love to serve our
customers, help them thrive, and make them stars.

Imagine never having another boring day at work. Imagine a place free of
politics and whiners. Combine that with amazing energy and productivity
that cranks out astonishingly good work every day. We don't know it all,
but we're figuring it out together and having a great time doing it.

*Who we are*
GasPedal is the company that manages WordofMouth.org and SocialMedia.org.
Businesses everywhere are beginning to realize that honest, ethical
customer love is the most powerful kind of marketing. They are learning to
listen, to obsess over customer experience, to treat people like people, to
value values, to respect the environment, to be part of the community -- to
be nice.
We teach them how to do it. We believe that this is good for society -- and
that it's a profitable business strategy. Companies that get their
customers for free through the power of word of mouth have a fundamental
competitive advantage over those that use expensive marketing to chase
fleeing customers. Smart companies reinvest those savings in service,
support, and innovation -- putting them even further ahead.
This is a dream job if you're interested in social media, amazing customer
service, or the future of marketing. You won't just be reading about the
visionaries. You'll be working with them to make the future more ethical
and effective. Stop talking about this stuff -- do something about it.
Check out our sites to learn more: wordofmouth.org, socialmedia.org,
gaspedal.com, and damniwish.com. If what you read turns you on, join us on
this exciting adventure.
