The School of Library and Information Sciences at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) invites applications for two tenure track Assistant Professor positions beginning in the Spring or Fall semester in 2013. Teaching schedules will include evening and weekend assignments as well as online teaching. Student academic advising, supervising practicum experiences, grantsmanship, curriculum development, departmental and university committees, and professional organizations are required for this position as well as a very strong commitment to collegiality.

Located in North Carolina's Research Triangle Park (Raleigh-Durham, NC), NCCU offers extensive opportunities for research and networking. Faculty members are actively engaged in research and publishing. North Carolina Central University is a constituent member of the 16-campus North Carolina University system and is committed to scholarship and the foundational values of citizenship and public service.

Areas of Interest:


         Children's Resources and Services-- Knowledge of the history, teaching and current approaches in children's resources and services; adolescent resources and services; children's and young adult collection development; young adult literature; ethnic collection development and teaching, including African American history and literature; censorship; juvenile development; and performance-based education.

         Reference and Information Resources and Services-- Knowledge of the history, teaching and current approaches to delivering effective and efficient reference services electronically and manually in a variety of venues including libraries and other information agencies.

Qulifications:
A Ph.D. in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field is required. Strong consideration will be given to those who have significant interest or experience in online teaching, advising, publishing and building a strong library and information science community of users. The successful candidate must have a commitment to the academic process, to excellence in research, education, and service, and to diversity in the community locally, nationally and internationally.
