Digital Information and Library Manager (full-time)

 

The First Amendment Center (Nashville, Tenn. office) seeks a Digital Information and Library Manager. 

 

Under supervision of the Director of First Amendment Studies, the Digital Information and Library Manager principal job responsibilities include: monitoring social media sites related to First Amendment issues, developing and enhancing the First Amendment Center’s digital presence through social media, providing training for staff on emerging media and “apps,” maintaining the Research Department’s Intranet site and periodically writing articles for the Center’s web site.  The manager position is responsible for the daily compilation and distribution of an internal news alert focusing on articles related to the Freedom Forum’s three priorities – the Newseum, the First Amendment and newsroom diversity.

 

Also, the Digital Information and Library manager oversees the day-to-day upkeep of the library, including cataloging books, distribution of periodicals and newspapers, maintenance of subscription, collection development; and provides research and reference assistance to Freedom Forum and First Amendment Center staff.

 

 

Duties

 

·         Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the library (manage collection development, catalog new acquisitions, track subscriptions, process invoices received by the library and respond to research requests from staff).

·         Manage and create databases for special projects.

·         Produce daily alert to staff about news articles related to the First Amendment and operating programs of the Freedom Forum.

·         Provide research support for staff.

·         Provide back-up research support for the Freedom Forum’s library in Washington, D.C.

·         Track social media mentions of the First Amendment Center and its experts.

 

 

Job Requirements and Skills:

·         An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited school and library management preferred.

·         Experience in reference and research services needed.

·         The applicant should be knowledgeable in database searching – especially legal and news databases.

·         Able to create databases for special projects.

·         Engagement in social media.

·         Strong writing and communication skills
