2012-2013 Information Literacy Librarian Fellowships, Ingram Library

Discouraged by job ads requiring professional experience? Are you a recent graduate who wants to get some experience before applying for a permanent position? Would you like to gain experience teaching a for-credit Core library course? Would you like to gain library instruction experience with librarians who foster collaborative teaching and student learning? Are you open to new ideas and challenges?

Ingram Library is seeking two Information Literacy Librarian Fellows to join us for this adventure this fall.

Description of the Fellowship
The Information Literacy Fellows will:
●     Teach face-to-face and online sections of LIBR1101, UWG’s credit-bearing semester-long Core information literacy course
●     Teach "one shot" library instruction sessions
●     Cover reference shifts (QuestionPoint chat; face-to-face; Go PRO by appointment)
●     Other instructional and outreach duties as appropriate

Each Fellowship is a two-semester (full-time limited term) instructor contract to teach in the fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters.

UWG Instructional Services supports professional development. Fellows will be encouraged to seek professional development opportunities. Limited travel support may be provided for fellows presenting at conferences.

About Ingram Library’s Instruction Program
The Instructional Services division is committed to improving teaching and learning in the area of information literacy. The University of West Georgia has included LIBR 1101 “Academic Research and the Library” as part of its Core since 1998. Students who take LIBR 1101 perform, are retained and graduate at higher levels than other students. IS librarians experiment with emerging pedagogies in a collaborative environment. The librarians’ flexible work and learning spaces help to create a supportive, collaborative work environment that is ideal for a new professional gaining experience in the area of library instruction. The IS Fellows will be open to new ideas, willing to take risks and have the ability and courage to fail gracefully and change course when necessary.

Qualifications
Required:
• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program, conferred within the last 24 months
• Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills
• Demonstrated interest or coursework in library instruction

Preferred:
• Reference or classroom teaching experience
• Familiarity with active learning techniques and assessment practices
●  Comfortable teaching and presenting information in both face-to-face and online
    environments
●   Experience with course management systems
●   Sense of humor

The University of West Georgia is located in Carrollton, GA, a community approximately one hour west of Atlanta and about 20 miles east of the Alabama state line. The University of West Georgia has approximately 11,500 students with 55 undergraduate degree programs, 36 masters degree programs and 3 doctoral programs. The main campus is in Carrollton and there is a satellite campus in Newnan.

Salary & Benefits
