Simmons GSLIS congratulates MLIP Professor of Practice Camila Alire on her nomination by President Obama to the National Council of the Humanities. Once confirmed by the Senate, Alire will be one of twenty-six members advising the Council's chairman. See the official announcement from ALA at: http://www.districtdispatch.org/2012/07/former-ala-president-camila-a-alire-nominated-by-obama-to-administration-post/.

Professor Alire, who served as President of ALA from 2009-2010, was the first of three Simmons GSLIS professors/alums to serve as ALA President during this four year period. Alum Molly Raphael just finished her term as the 2011-2012 president; she handed over the reins to MLIP Professor of Practice Maureen Sullivan at the annual ALA meeting in Anaheim last week.
