Catholic University School of Library and Information Science receives IMLS grant for Cultural Heritage Information Management

The School of Library and Information Science of The Catholic University of America has been awarded a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services in the amount of $498,741 for the project "Cultural Heritage Information Management (CHIM): Educating 21st Century Cultural Heritage Information Professionals". The grant will provide scholarship support for 17 CHIM students starting in spring 2013. Dr. Youngok Choi is the Project Director and Dr. Ingrid Hsieh-Yee is the Co-Project Director.

CHIM aims to develop student competencies in the organization, management, and access to the rich resources and collections of cultural institutions through the use of digital technologies. Students will also develop proficiency in designing information services and outreach programs to promote the appreciation and use of cultural heritage resources and collections. Students in this concentration will have opportunities to do practicums at partner institutions that include the Art Museum of the Americas, Corcoran School of Art & Design, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Library of Congress, National Agricultural Library, National Library of Medicine, and the Smithsonian Institution.
