Dear Colleagues,

Below are two announcements that may be of interest.  Note that “Outreach and Engagement Staff” in this context includes people who may have neither “outreach” nor “engagement” in their titles – e.g., they may be administrators or non-tenure-track faculty, or may work in alumni, communications, development, programs abroad or student affairs offices.    Please contact me if interested in the first opportunity – UTK already has folks travelling to the main NOSC conference.

1. Outreach & Engagement Staff Workshop (OESW), 9/30 & 10/1, Tuscaloosa, AL

This preconference workshop, part of the National Outreach Scholarship Conference (NOSC 2012),  is designed for university staff and non-tenure-track faculty who, in roles distinct from tenure-track faculty, facilitate and manage ongoing projects, programs, services research and relationships with community partners. These professionals span the boundaries between campus and community and have an emerging professional identity and a unique set of strengths and challenges that will be addressed in this workshop.

Our theme this year is “Working Differently: New modes of outreach and engagement practice” with David Weerts, coauthor of research on outreach & engagement staff boundary-spanning roles, as our guest speaker.  Major topics include staff roles, power & identity; evaluation; and institutional transformation related to outreach & engagement practice.  See the preconference web page for more details.

PLEASE NOTE that when you register, you must add BOTH events (OESW preconference and NOSC) to your “cart” separately.  You can find the registration link on the NOSC 2012 web site.

2. National listserv for outreach & community engagement staff

The Outreach and Community Engagement Staff Network is an inter-campus community of practice for practitioners of the art and science of community-university partnerships.  Sponsored by the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, the purpose of the listserv is to support and develop the emerging professional identity of OCE Staff; facilitate learning and professional development; connect staff for information & resource sharing, consultation, collaboration, technical assistance and problem solving; and to share best and emerging practices.  For more information, contact Katherine Loving at [log in to unmask] or Elizabeth Burman at [log in to unmask].
