Assistant Professor for Library Systems and Collection Management

The Lila D. Bunch Library at Belmont University is seeking applications for a non-tenure track librarian position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2012.  The incumbent will be responsible for various aspects of technology applications and collection management processes under the direction of the Unit Head for Library Systems and Collection Management.  A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program or progress toward a terminal degree is required; teaching experience strongly preferred.  The university seeks a person of Christian faith and commitment to the mission of the university.

Purdue University Libraries seeks a highly motivated, innovative, and learner-centered individual for the position of GIS Specialist. In support of the Libraries' strategic plan, the GIS specialist will maintain and expand the Libraries' GIS presence on campus, and as a faculty member will contribute to the research and scholarship in this area. The GIS Specialist serves as a Libraries' primary resource for GIS-related questions. Collaborates with faculty campus-wide, including an emerging digital humanities community, on interdisciplinary research and to integrate geospatial information literacy and knowledge management skills into their instruction, as a part of the Libraries' comprehensive information literacy program. Organizes campus gateway to geospatial data, including locally produced data as well as commercial, government, and other institutional data. Advocates for best practices
of geospatial data management, including using open source formats, appropriate documentation and use of metadata to enable downstream
sharing of research data. Contributes to digitization program of unique, print geospatial resources held at Purdue. Purdue has many groups active
in GIS-related instruction and research across the campus, comprising topics as diverse as political science, history, business and economics,
homeland security, climate change, engineering, agriculture, and geology. The GIS Specialist identifies ongoing campus user needs for GIS
and collaborates with centers of geospatial activity across campus, including as part of sponsored research projects. Collaborates with
University and Libraries information technology department in acquiring and planning for upgrades to hardware and software to support changing
geospatial technologies.

 

*Required qualifications: *Masters degree from an ALA-accredited library school and/or advanced, terminal degree in another relevant discipline.
Academic background or work experience with GIS software, digital geospatial data, and cartographic concepts. Commitment to engage in research and scholarship, and ability to achieve promotion and tenure.

*Desired Qualifications:* Two years recent experience providing GIS services to end users; vision and leadership to develop expanded geospatial information services; demonstrated interest in the applications of current and emerging technologies to meet the changing needs of users; strong service orientation and high degree of computer literacy; experience with common open source technologies for spatial data and the web (PostGIS, GDAL/OGR, GeoServer, GeoNetwork, OpenLayers/Google Maps, etc.); experience with web APIs and linked data endpoints; excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work well with all levels of users and staff; demonstrated commitment to user instruction and to consultation with users on their information management needs; ability to organize and provide access to decentralized data repositories; and supervisory experience.

Associate University Librarian for Content and Collections
The University of Minnesota University Libraries seeks strategic leadership for the position of Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Content and Collections.  This new organizational division coalesces existing units and evolving functions associated with the full life cycle of knowledge resources to support the academic programs of the University and contribute to global scholarship and learning.  Reporting to the University Librarian, the AUL is a member of the senior leadership of the Libraries and will play a lead role in fostering collaborative strategies to shape a robust and sustainable environment for scholarly content.
The position provides direct administrative oversight for four units and works across the organization to develop policies and protocols that enable and shape the work of discipline liaisons, access and technology specialists, and collection support personnel. The AUL contributes to the strategic development of local, regional, and national strategies in digitization and digital preservation and supports coordination of relevant licensing and collection management strategies for the University's coordinate campus libraries.  In shaping Libraries' programs to contribute digital content to the broader scholarly community, the AUL plays a critical role in campus outreach to assess needs, develop capacities, and structure models for funding and rights.
As a member of the Libraries' leadership, the AUL contributes to organizational planning, resource development, and policy. S/he serves as sponsor to Libraries cross-divisional initiatives and represents the organization in relevant consortial and collaborative venues to develop collective strategies for efficient and progressive multi-institutional program development.

Digital Project Manager (3 year Temp)

We seek a Digital Project Manager to manage the day-to-day timeline
and work flow for Carnegie Hall's Digital Archives Project, a
comprehensive initiative that will digitize extensive paper and
audio-visual holdings documenting the Hall's 120-year history,
ensuring that they are preserved for future generations and made
increasingly accessible to the public. Manage vendor relationships,
perform quality control on results of digitization work, and monitor
project outcomes. Serve as key team member participating in selection
of new digital asset management system, taking the lead in developing
taxonomy and metadata for digital materials. Serve as Archives point
person in coordinating plans to create digital repository designed to
house both the Hall's legacy collections as well as newly-created
digital content. This position will be in place throughout the first
three years of the Digital Archives Project and may extend beyond that
time based on project requirements.
Qualifications: BA/BS, in Archival Management or Library Information
Science (master's degree a plus). Minimum 3-5 years of relevant
experience, including work with digital emphasis.  Experience in the
care, handling, and preservation of a wide range of audiovisual media.
 Demonstrated knowledge of principles and best practices for analog
and digital preservation and access. Strong project management skills.
Understanding of databases, working knowledge of digital content
formats, and experience working with digital asset and content
management systems (specific experience with SQL 2008 R2; ASP.NET
technologies; and/or Ektron CMS400 v8.5 a plus). Keen attention to
detail and strong organizational skills. Excellent written and
interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively
about the project with both technical and non-technical staff. Desire
to work as part of a team.
