Teaching Academic Staff (TAS) Information Science and Technology (Associate, No Prefix, Senior Lecturer)

The School of Information Studies (SOIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications for two nine-month teaching academic staff (TAS) positions in Information Science and Technology with a start date ofAugust 20, 2012. Working with faculty and SOIS administration, these positions will be responsible for teaching 4 courses during fall and spring semesters in the IST program to include one or more of the following areas: networking, security, web/graphic design, database management, and mobile application development. Summer teaching may be available based on student demand.


A Bachelor’s degree in Information Science and Technology or related field is required as is 3-5 years’ work experience in at least one of the following areas: networking, security, web/graphic design, database management or mobile application development. Preferred qualifications include proven teaching experience in both onsite and online environments with a record in undergraduate program course development. Candidates should be able to teach one or more of the required courses within the IST degree program in addition to one of the following areas: networking, security, web/graphic design, database management or mobile application development. A master’s degree in a related field is highly desirable. Candidates with a master’s degree or equivalent may have the opportunity to teach at the graduate level.

SOIS has a large, diverse, international faculty that is among the top ten LIS programs in the country for research productivity. With 35 full-time faculty and teaching academic staff and more than 900 students, SOIS offers several educational programs: a Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Technology; an ALA-accredited MLIS; and a PhD in Information Studies. The SOIS instructional and research programs are designed to be a resourceful blend of the School's information focus, international scope, and interdisciplinary mindset.
