Biological Sciences and Bioinformatics Librarian Position

The Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Levy Library is seeking candidates
for a
Biological Sciences and Bioinformatics Librarian. This is an excellent
opportunity
for a motivated individual to further the development of our innovative
services
supporting a growing, dynamic research institution.

Responsibilities:
*       Develop and provide outreach and instruction in bioinformatics
and
bibliographic information retrieval, use and management, focused on
supporting
the biomedical information needs of the Mount Sinai research community
and
the curriculum of the Graduate School of Biological Sciences. Conduct
other
classes and presentations as needed.
*       Provide individual and group consultations supporting use of
bioinformatics and bibliographic tools, including search strategy
formulation and
effective use of information resources.
*       Collaborate with faculty and colleagues in developing and
maintaining
print and online instructional tools and guides.
*       Collaborate with faculty to support the institution's
translational and
basic science research initiatives.
*       Assist in evaluating bioscience information resources for
library licensing.
*       Serve on institution-wide and library committees as appropriate.

Requirements
An MSc or PhD in the biological sciences or an MLS from an
ALA-accredited
program is required. Eligible candidates must also have: experience in
the use
of molecular biology/genetics databases such as NCBI's Entrez and BLAST
and
MetaCore from GeneGo; demonstrated aptitude for teaching; knowledge of
the
information needs of biomedical researchers; familiarity with the
scholarly
communication and research processes of biomedicine; proficient written
and
spoken communication skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational
skills;
strong public service orientation; ability to work independently and
collaboratively. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or non-citizen
nationals or
must be lawfully admitted for permanent residence.

Preferred
The ideal candidate will also have experience in the following: use of
biomedical
resources such as MEDLINE, Current Protocols, and Web of Science; use of
bibliographic management software such as EndNote; use of applications
such
as MATLAB and Adobe Creative Suite; implementation of outreach and/or
marketing initiatives; Web page development and the design, integration,
and
assessment of Web 2.0 technologies such as wikis, blogs and social
networking
platforms.

sciences

Mount Sinai School of Medicine (MSSM), located in New York City, is
