Information organization (IO) faces many ethical challenges which demand our attention. The IO literature raises ethical issues concerning the role of national and international IO standards, provision of appropriate subject access, deprofessionalization of IO work, education of IO professionals, and the effects of globalization. These issues, and others like them, have serious implications for quality and equity in information access. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Information Studies and its Information Organization Research Group and Center for Information Policy Research are joined by Milwaukee Public Library, Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries and UWM Libraries in presenting this conference to address the ethics of information organization.

Presentations will address the ethics of a wide range of topics:
• Classification theory
• Indigenous knowledge organization
• Consultants' attitudes toward and corporate roles in cataloging
• Metadata standards and practices
• Archival representation
• Addressing the shortcoming of subject access
• Representations of marginalized groups and topics
• Catalogers' objectives and responsibilities
• Concepts for education and research
• Where we are now
• and more
