Position Summary

Provide effective leadership and administer the program of library services including development, implementation, and evaluation of the library's goals, objectives, and policies; hire, train, and supervise personnel; interpret and comply with federal, state and local regulations; allocate financial and operational resources  

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

-Direct and manage operations of on-campus and off-campus libraries; analyze library needs; coordinate library activities of all departments and branches; prepare and administer budget; determine staffing and assignments; evaluate effectiveness of programs and services.
-Represent the Library and its needs at the TBR level and the regional level.
-Identify, analyze and evaluate systems and equipment technologies currently available to meet library needs
-Teach library instruction classes.
-Serve as liaison to one or more academic areas.
-Develop annual goals and objectives in concert with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and library personnel; oversee/ensure realization of desired outcomes.
-Recommend employment of personnel; identify training needs; develop plans/programs and ensure implementation; manage personnel performance; recommend and implement corrective action on performance deficiencies; model collegial working relationships.
-Select, review, and evaluate additions/deletions of library collections - books, journals, audiovisual materials, electronic resources, etc.
-Identify, analyze and evaluate departmental needs; acquire resources as needed.
-Provide library-related information (reports, reference/research/bibliographic information, book talks, etc.) to patrons; consult with college personnel and students to ensure that library services and programs support and complement the college's mission and goals.
-Represent the library within the college and to the general public; direct and/or participate in college-wide projects and committees as appropriate.
-Promote, support and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts; identify and implement customer service enhancements related to library services and programs.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned and as needed.  

Required Qualifications

-Education and training: Master's Degree in Library Science
-Work experience: Two years full-time library experience AND two years full-time administrative experience in higher education

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

-Knowledge: Knowledge of leadership principles and techniques; principles and techniques of higher education; principles of a comprehensive community college
-Skills: Skills in developing and implementing academic programs; management of an academic division; strategic planning, implementation and evaluation; program review; computer keyboarding; oral and written communication; problem-solving and conflict resolution; promoting a collegial governance model
-Abilities: Ability to provide strong leadership in the division; to interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures; to maximize information/communication systems available in performance of job responsibilities; to apply current computer technologies related to libraries; to work in a collaborative environment; to represent the College in the community; to service in an advocacy role within the parameters of the position; and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships
