Cataloging & Serials Librarian
Dakota Wesleyan University’s McGovern Library seeks a full-time cataloging and serials librarian to begin June 1, 2012. Dakota Wesleyan University is a private four year liberal
arts university located in Mitchell, SD, and is affiliated with the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church. The McGovern Library was dedicated in 2006 and is a member of the South Dakota Library Network.
Primary responsibilities include cataloging of all library materials using OCLC and ExLibris’ Aleph ILS and managing all aspects of serials control. Shared responsibilities
include evening and weekend reference services and digital collections development. The cataloging and serials librarian reports to the Director of Learning Resources.
Required Qualifications: Graduation from an ALA accredited Master’s Program in Library and Information Science. Knowledge of library functions, services and principles of library management and database systems.
Knowledge of current and emerging cataloging standards and experience with cataloging and metadata protocols (i.e., MARC and one other metadata standard).
Knowledge of and experience with current trends in serials acquisition, organization and content delivery. Knowledge of digitization principles and
practices. Ability to communicate effectively. Candidate must have strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills and have a demonstrated commitment to the DWU mission and values of learning,
leadership, faith and service.
Preferred Qualifications: Successful academic library experience. Experience with ExLibris’ Aleph ILS and ContentDM. Knowledge of RDA.
