Subject: INVITATION TO USAR CYSS Youth Leadership Education and Development Summit Gulfport-Biloxi MS 29MAR-1APR

Greetings Parents/Soldiers,

If you have children ages 14-17 years old, living in AL, MS, FL, GA or TN please read the attached announcement. This is an exciting FREE OPPORTUNITY for your kids and will look great on their resume/college applications!

This Youth Leadership Education and Development (YLEAD) summit is an excellent opportunity for your child. We usually have about 90 days advanced notice, but due to CYSS contract switched from Serco Inc. to Odyssey TCI LLC, we have less than 30 days notice!

THERE IS NO COST TO THE PARENT other than to take your child to your nearest airport. The kids will be put on travel orders so I am looking for kids to let me know they want to attend. If you live in Mobile, you will have to drive your child to Gulfport/Biloxi but we will reimburse your mileage at the JTR rate.

If you know other families with kids 14-17 years old, who are not on my email list, please pass this information to them! The sign up will be first come, first serve. USAR only (e.g. No Active Duty Army or National Guard).

NOTE: If your child has attended a YLEAD in the past, they are not eligible.

The kids will receive a letter to give to their school to excuse their absence with the following information. The kids will have an hour each day if they need to complete homework.
Two highlights of our event our a trip to The Center for Marine Education and Research where the kids will learn about biology, other sea life, hands on touching of some mammals and a viewing of two rescued dolphins Bo and Buster in the dolphin tanks. Another outing is a boat ride and tour to Ships Island National Park/Seashore and Fort Massachusetts for some history and biology/ecology learning sessions.

Guest Speakers include Military Leaders and Civic Leaders and usually a professional athlete (models of leadership and responsibility). For example, we are honored to have the Harrison County Sheriff's education department to teach B.R.A.V.E. (B-ullying R-esistance A-nti V-iolence E-ducation) and DoD will provide a Military Family Life Consultant to talk with the kids about Deployment Stress Management. Many other educational and fun speakers are being recruited on the topics of Leadership, Effectively Working with Others, Managing Deployment, Accepting Differences (Diversity), Exploring Interests-Career Choices, Communication, Family Relationships, Military Culture, Youth-Adult Partnerships, and Decision Making. (The MS State Patrol will talk with the kids about texting/drinking and driving).

Here is a little information about the event:
