--- Changes to The T System --- Due to the closure of a section of Andy Holt Avenue near the University Center, the following changes have been made to The T Transit System:

* The T:East-West buses heading east will take Volunteer Boulevard to Cumberland Avenue to the Hill. From the Hill, East-West buses heading west will take Cumberland Avenue to Volunteer Boulevard. There will be no service along Phillip Fulmer Way or Middle Way Drive.

* The T: Late Nite bus also will use Cumberland Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard rather than Phillip Fulmer Way when coming into campus from Fort Sanders. There will be no Late Nite stop along Philip Fulmer Way.

New maps are available for viewing at all KAT bus shelters, at UT Parking Services in the basement of the University Center, and at RideTheT.com.


--- KAT Routes for Visitors to the University Center --- Campus visitors, especially those going to the UC, will be directed to park at Volunteer Hall on White Avenue. The T: North-South and The T: Late Nite buses run along White Avenue with a stop located across from the Volunteer Hall garage entrance. Visitors can catch those routes to reach the University Center.

--- Additional Commuter Student Parking Added --- More parking has been added for commuter students. The Convention Center surface parking lot (also called the Poplar Lot), located on Poplar Street and Henley Street across the railroad tracks just east of the Hill, will accommodate UT commuter students from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday during the academic year. Commuter parking spots are now available on Phillip Fulmer Way between Peyton Manning Pass and Thompson-Boling Arena. And Staff lot 28 at Lake Avenue is now a commuter lot.

--- Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity's annual "Sigma Week" is this week. This year's theme "Deja Blu." All events are open to UT students and the general public. Event schedule:

Monday, March 26: A Cookout at the Black Cultural Center, 3 to 6 p.m., cohosted with the Sigma Beta Rho Multicultural Fraternity. Free food will be provided and the organizations will perform a mini stroll exhibition. 1990s trivia game show in the UC Shiloh Room, 7 p.m. Contestants in the game show will compete for prizes, which include a Kindle Fire. Door prizes will be available. Entry to this event will cost $3 or $2 with a canned good. There will be a $15 fee to enter to win the Kindle Fire. 

Tuesday, March 27: Mahogany Soul Café, cohosted with Zeta Phi Beta sorority, 6 p.m. in the Black Cultural Center. This is an open mic event where students can perform various works of art. Sleep-Out for the Homeless, 7 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday in the Humanities Amphitheater following Mahogany Soul Café. Clothing and financial donations will be collected to benefit Knox Area Rescue Ministries. Donations will also be collected via boxes located in each residence hall lobby. 

Wednesday, March 28: Women’s Appreciation Dinner and program, 8 p.m. in the UC Executive Dining Room. This program will honor several women on campus and in the local community. 

Thursday, March 29: HIV awareness and testing session, noon to 4:30 p.m. in the Black Cultural Center multipurpose room. Financial literacy seminar, 7:30 p.m. in UC room 221. 

Friday, March 30: Showtime, a multicultural organization showcase that is hosted by the Minority Enhancement for the University of Tennessee team of Vol Corps. Showtime will take place at the AMB Auditorium at 7 p.m. 

Saturday, March 31: "Sweet Dreams: A Royal Fantasy," a formal ball, 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday at Bridgeview at the Boathouse. Tickets for this event are $10 for singles or $16 for a couple. --- The UT Police Department will host an "Operation Identification" event from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today in Presidential Courtyard. "Operation Identification" is a theft prevention program offered free of charge. By completing the "Operation ID" registration, UTPD will maintain information on your personal item, they can apply a registration sticker and/or engrave your property. This step may aid in theft prevention and ease the process of theft recovery. If you are unable to attend this event, you can schedule an appointment at UTPD to have your property registered by calling 974-3114. Additionally, UTPD hosts "Operation ID" at Hodges Library weekly on Mondays from noon to 2:00 p.m. during the academic year.


--- UT College Democrats meeting, 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, in HSS room 104. Speaker: Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero. Pizza and drinks will be served. Free and open to the public.

--- The College of Law is starting a pilot program for students interested in learning about the work of states' attorneys general to not only participate in classroom instruction but also to spend the summer months working in various states' attorneys general offices. The college will kick off the new program at noon Tuesday, March 27, at the College of Law with speakers Bob Cooper and Jim Hood, attorneys general in Tennessee and Mississippi, respectively. The college plans to offer the course in spring 2013, followed by the externship in the summer. Questions? Call 974-2521.


--- Interest meeting for a new club, Advancement of Neuroscience at UT, 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, in WLS M409. This club is an undergraduate student organization designed to facilitate the creation of a neuroscience major, to promote interest in neuroscience-related topics including research, and to network like-minded students, faculty, and other professionals. Free and open to the public.

--- The International Justice Mission at UT will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. on both Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28 in HSS 56 to talk about opportunities for next semester. Each meeting will cover the same topics. IJM will be partnering with Jazz for Justice on an education initiative regarding Invisible Children's recent Kony 2012 video. Please come to hear more about this education initiative, and the opportunities that will be available to get involved next year. There are still officer positions available for next year.

--- An environmental scientist from the National Science Foundation will talk about research experiences for undergraduates March 27 and 28. Diana Elder Anderson, a program director for the NSF Division of Biological Infrastructure, will discuss the agency's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program in a talk at 7:00 p.m. March 27 in UC 223-24. --- Volunteer Dining and the Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Department are co-hosting a "construction fair" from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, outside the Cumberland Avenue entrance of the UC. Representatives from businesses operating inside the UC will answer questions about how recent construction changes will affect University Center operations. --- Move over 'Iron Chef,' the regional ARAMARK Culinary Excellence (ACE) Challenge is coming to campus on Thursday, March 29. The ACE program allows the opportunity for chefs from colleges, universities and conference centers around the country to showcase their culinary skills in a competitive environment. Eleven chefs will compete at UT, and one will advance to the finals that will take place in June in Tampa, Fla. 
Volunteer Dining is already preparing for the ACE competition. The competition begins at 11:00 a.m. at Presidential Court Café. Each chef will have four hours to prep, cook and serve their meal. They will each prepare an entrée, side dish and dessert for the judges and students. The competition is open to UT students, faculty and staff to try each chef's dish. The cost is $5, and students can use their meal plan to pay. Each diner will be asked to vote on their favorite dish.

--- The time has come for the 2nd Annual PEER Symposium.  The symposium will be held on Thursday, March 29 at the UC, and the theme this year is “Networking for Success”.  This year’s events include: Ph.D. Comics Movie Screening, a Resource and Information Session, Keynote Speaker, panel discussions and breakout sessions, and a “Diversity in Research” Poster Session/Mixer. --- The Cultural Attractions Committee presents Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, performing "Moulin Rouge – The Ballet," on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville. Tickets are $5 for current UT students with a valid UT ID and $30 for general admission. --- Clarence Brown Lab Theatre production of the surreal comedy "Dead Man's Cell Phone," March 29-April 15. UT students can attend the 7:30 p.m. March 29 show for free with valid UT ID. --- Join the UT Libraries in celebrating the Shaheen Antiquarian Bible Collection, more than 300 early printed Bibles and other rare books from the collection of noted Shakespeare scholar Naseeb Shaheen. A reception and lecture will take place in Hodges Library on Friday, March 30. The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Jack E. Reese Galleria. At 7:00 p.m., Renaissance scholar Hannibal Hamlin will speak on "Shakespeare and the Bible." Selected Bibles will be on display in Special Collections.

--- Campus Entertainment Board presents "Vol Night Long: VOLthat!", from 10:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, to 2:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at the TRECS Intramural Fields. Vol Night Long is a free event that focuses on alternative late-night programming for students that is centered around on-campus leisure. This semester, "VOLthat!" is intended to be a 90s-themed event, with food, games, prizes and a dance party all centered around the decade in which students grew up. --- UT Knoxville's College Republicans, College Democrats, and We the People student organizations invite students and the public to a debate about major issues affecting Americans' lives today. The debate is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the UC Auditorium. Free and open to the public. Questions will highlight the differences between the three groups' ideologies while stressing the importance of civil discourse when engaging in discussions of politics in the public sphere.

--- Check out the UT Economics Club's blog, which showcases economics and related articles to inform campus of economics related topics. This semester, the blog's focus is on US debt. The blog can be accessed at utkeconomicsclub.wordpress.com. In addition, the UT Economics Club will host its second annual Debt Event lecture, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Haslam Business Building. The speaker is Donald Bruce. --- Volapalooza 2012 is set for 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the TRECS Intramural Fields. The end-of-the-year concert will feature artists Ziggy Marley, Three 6 Mafia, Big Gigantic and The Black Cadillacs. Students can now purchase their tickets in advance through www.bigorangetix.com. Students are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance, as they will be $5 if purchased through the website, and $10 if purchased at the gate. General public tickets will be $20 and may be purchased through www.knoxvilletickets.com. They will be $30 if purchased at the gate on the day of the event. --- RecycleMania is wrapping up this week. Help finish out the competition by eating some tasty food! UT Recycling and UT Volunteer Dining have teamed up to host three zero-waste lunches this week. During these waste-not-want-not lunches, 100 percent of leftover food will be composted: Monday, March 26: Morrill Dining; Wednesday, March 28: Arena Dining; Friday, March 30: PCB Café. Lunch is served daily on campus from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Drop by and get a plateful! Food waste will be taken to the UT Recycling compost site adjacent to the UT Medical Center, where it will be turned into nutrient-rich soil for the UT Organic Farm.

Ready for the World Events

--- Fine Italian cuisine will be featured at the Ready for the World Café on Tuesday, March 27. This week features Italian specialties like arancini, panzanella, braciole with polenta cakes and escarole, and gelato in an almond Florentine cookie. The Ready for the World Café, which is sponsored by US Foods, operates from noon to 1 p.m. in the UT Visitors Center, 2712 Neyland Drive. Each luncheon will consist of intermezzo, or small appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert. Advance tickets will be sold for each of the 10 luncheons, and capacity is 50 to 60 diners. --- The International Dance Competition is a new program hosted by the International House at UT to showcase cultures and provide the campus community with enjoyable entertainment. The program will take place on Wednesday, March 28 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the UC Auditorium. There will be two categories of dance entries: traditional/classical and contemporary. A winner (either an individual or a group) for each category will be selected. Entries include dances from the following countries and regions: China, Japan, Latin America, Middle East, Nepal, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turkey. A professional dance group will provide the opening and closing acts. Free and open to the general public. For more info call 974-4453.

--- The Knox Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (KAPPI) and the Knox County Health Department are calling for entries for a Public Service Announcement (PSA) video competition. Teens in Knox County who are under age 20 are invited to produce a 30-second PSA promoting responsible sexual decision making targeted at teens. Each video entry will receive a $20 gift card. Winners receive up to $500 or an iPad, plus $250 to the sponsoring organization. The UT College of Communication and Information is partnering with KAPPI to provide technical assistance to competing teams. The deadline for initial entry forms is Friday, March 30. The deadline for final submissions is Friday, May 4.
