The University of Wisconsin‐Madison
School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) seeks a candidate to join our
dynamic learning community as Visiting Assistant Professor for the academic
year 2012-13, to teach the following five graduate courses: Archives User
Services, Records Management (repeats), Information Agencies and their
Environment (introductory MA course), and distance practicum. Candidates
should have a Ph.D. by August 2012 and potential for or demonstrated excellence
in teaching, and should be prepared to contribute to the distance master’s

SLIS has approximately 200 masters and
20 doctoral students in LIS. SLIS is a co-sponsor (with the Wisconsin
Historical Society and the University of Wisconsin Libraries) of, and home to,
the Center for the History of Print and Digital Culture. The CHPDC fosters the interdisciplinary
study of print culture, through lectures and colloquia, biennial conferences,
and the University of Wisconsin Press series "Print
Culture History in Modern America," which encourages scholarly
work on the authorship, reading, publication and distribution of print and now
digital materials, produced by those at both the center and the periphery of
power. SLIS is also a partner in the UW‐Madison Digital Studies
initiative, a cross‐departmental initiative that prepares undergraduate
students to critically analyze and creatively compose with new media and
information technologies (see http://www.dighum.wisc.edu/). SLIS contributes to the
cross-departmental Digital Studies undergraduate certificate.
SLIS is equipped with a newly remodeled
instructional computer laboratory, a usability lab, and its own library, in
addition to the resources of the University Libraries. It cooperates actively
with the University Library System, the Cooperative Children's Book Center and
the Wisconsin Historical Society's library and archives. It is also home to a
large and vital Continuing Education Service. It is located in a modern
classroom building overlooking beautiful Lake Mendota in one of the world's
finest universities and in one of the United States’ most livable cities.
