Dr. Elizabeth Strand | | Dr. Elizabeth Strand Educates Community on Animal Hoarding Dr. Elizabeth Strand, of the University of Tennessee College of Social Work and pioneer in Veterinary Social Work, appeared on Knoxville-area television news station WBIR recently to provide information and insight into the unfortunate social problem of animal hoarding--the hoarding of unmaintainable numbers of animals by persons who, according to Strand, are coping with some trauma.

Brought onto the news program as a leading voice in the area of human-animal relations, Dr. Strand, who teaches at the College as well as counsels people convicted of animal cruelty, spoke about the need for comprehensive strategies for treatment of the animal hoarders, strategies that include social work.
