“Orchard Skills: From Planting to Pruning” is the topic of the Roane County Master Gardener’s (RCMG) sixth Winter Workshop to be held on Saturday the 25^th of February.

This year the Master Gardeners have teamed up with Roane County Extension Agent, Grant Palmer and the Bradbury United Methodist Church to provide not only classroom training but also active, hands on experience in an orchard.

The classroom experience will include lunch, a discussion of soil preparation, plant selection, planting, fertilization, pruning and opportunities for sharing the harvest with those in need.

The class will then move to the orchard for hands on experience in tree pruning and tree shaping techniques.  Each tree is different so seeing a number of examples is important for skill mastery.
