Special

--- In one month, UT's main visitor parking will be moved and a portion of Andy Holt Avenue will close permanently — two large-scale changes needed to begin the new Student Union project.

Demolition of the University Center parking garage begins March 17. Visitor parking will open March 17 in the Volunteer Hall garage on White Avenue. Also on March 17, Andy Holt Avenue, between Volunteer Boulevard and Phillip Fulmer Drive, will close to commence infrastructure work. The road will not reopen because plans call for extending the Joe Johnson and John Ward Pedestrian Walkway to an open pedestrian plaza that will ultimately extend to the Hill.

For more info, visit Cone Zone, http://conezone.utk.edu, a website and signage program to highlight this and other construction project directions, road closures, pedestrian pathways and other information for the campus community and visitors.

--- This is National Emergency Preparedness Week. Do your part by signing up for UT Alert, the campus emergency notification system, at https://utalert.utk.edu, or come to the University Center from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, and get help signing up.

Good News

--- The summer school timetable is now available. Check it out at registrar.utk.edu, consult your advisor, and be ready when registration begins February 29.

There are several advantages to taking summer courses, including smaller classes, a more relaxed campus, and a more focused learning environment. Beginning this year, students can use HOPE Scholarship funds to pay for summer courses.

Also, summer school students often find summer jobs or internships, gaining valuable professional experience and some spending money while taking classes. Be sure to explore the resources offered by Career Services at career.utk.edu.

For more information on summer school, visit www.utk.edu/summer.

--- Current students and recent graduates of the UT can now receive their academic transcripts online.

The new system creates a copy of the transcript in the Adobe Acrobat pdf format and e-mails it to the requestor within an hour after the transcript is ordered.

Previously, students and alumni could order their transcript online but only had the option to receive a printed copy, mailed to them via the U.S. Postal Service.

For more information, visit the University Registrar's website at http://registrar.tennessee.edu/records/transcripts.shtml.
