Dr. Nadine Kozak Joins UW-Milwaukee, School of Information Studies

The School of Information Studies (SOIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) has hired Dr. Nadine Kozak as an Assistant Professor beginning the fall semester of 2012.

Dr. Kozak’s research explores government projects and public-private partnerships created with the intent to expand broadband services to unserved and underserved communities, and analyzes how these projects are adopted in rural areas by a variety of organizations and residents. She received her PhD in Communication and Science Studies from the University of California, San Diego. Her dissertation research examined telecommunications policy and analyzed the development of broadband services in two regions, rural Wyoming and rural Alberta, Canada.

She received her Undergraduate degree in Honors History from the University of Calgary, Canada, and her Master’s in Communication from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.

In 2005 Dr. Kozak began teaching courses at UC San Diego and in January 2010 she was hired on as an Adjunct Lecturer. She has taught courses on the information age, the history of U.S. telecommunications, and communication law.

Dr. Kozak has received a number of awards, including a doctoral fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and a 2004-2005 Summer Graduate Teaching Fellowship from UC San Diego. She was also the 2011-2012 IP Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Information Policy Research (CIPR) at SOIS.

SOIS Interim Dean Dietmar Wolfram says, “We are delighted to have Dr. Nadine Kozak join the SOIS faculty this fall. Dr. Kozak brings expertise in information and telecommunications policy that will add to the school's international reputation in policy research.”
