Maryland's iSchool to Host Annual Americana Archives Event on March 5

College Park, MD (February 20, 2012)-The University of Maryland's College of Information Studies, Maryland's iSchool, and the Student Archivists of Maryland (SAM) invites the public to Americana: The Many Faces of Maryland's Archives Profession. This event will be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 6 pm in the Special Events Room of the University of Maryland's McKeldin Library.

The following speakers, all Maryland alumni, will share some of their experiences at the institutions and collections they have helped shape:


*         Dr. Mike Mashon, head of the Library of Congress Moving Image Division

*         Dr. Joni Jones, director of the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture and director of the Banneker Douglass Museum

*         Dr. Mary Choquette, creator and former curator of the Philadelphia Dance Collection
Join campus and community archival professionals at this event examining the multifaceted roles of the archivist. Refreshments will be served. RSVP is requested by February 29. Please visit ischool.umd.edu for more information and to RSVP online.
