Thanks! apologies for cross postings LIS Access Midwest Program (LAMP) Visit our website: http://lisaccess.org Overview The LIS Access Midwest Program (LAMP) is a regional network of academic libraries and information science schools dedicated to promoting careers within the field of library and information science (LIS). The program accomplishes this goal by encouraging promising under-graduate and incoming graduate students to participate in activities and events designed to increase their awareness of the profession and provide support for subsequent graduate studies in library and information science.LAMP specifically seeks to encourage the participation of students from statistically and historically underrepresented populations in LIS. Program Components LAMP employs a range of recruitment techniques including summer institutes, internships, peer and professional mentorship and guidance, and financial assistance for the completion of a Masters degree in LIS. LAMP scholars have unique opportunities to acquire guidance and encouragement form a regional support network of peers and LIS professionals. Scholars receive financial support to participate in activities and to pursue a degree in LIS. Compensation LAMP scholars receive registration fee waivers, and travel funds to attend the LAMP Summer Institute held annually at a different partner institution. This year the institute is hosted by the University of Michigan Libraries May 31 - June 3, 2012. The LAMP Summer Institute is a three-day program designed to prepare scholars for an academic career in LIS and give them tools to find jobs that best suit their curriculum and interests after graduation. The institute is an excellent opportunity to meet mentors, establish professional networks, and explore opportunities in the field. LAMP offers financial support in the form of a scholarship for students enrolled in ALA-accredited programs at one of the LAMP partner institutions: Dominican University, University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Wayne State University.
