LIS Access Midwest Program (LAMP)

Visit our website: http://lisaccess.org

Overview
The LIS Access Midwest Program (LAMP) is a regional network of academic
libraries and information science schools dedicated to promoting careers
within the field of library and information science (LIS). The program
accomplishes this goal by encouraging promising under-graduate and incoming
graduate students to participate in activities and events designed to
increase their awareness of the profession and provide support for
subsequent graduate studies in library and information science.LAMP
specifically seeks to encourage the participation of students from
statistically and historically underrepresented populations in LIS.

Program Components
LAMP employs a range of recruitment techniques including summer institutes,
internships, peer and professional mentorship and guidance, and financial
assistance for the completion of a Masters degree in LIS. LAMP scholars
have unique opportunities to acquire guidance and encouragement form a
regional support network of peers and LIS professionals. Scholars receive
financial support to participate in activities and to pursue a degree in
LIS.

Compensation
LAMP scholars receive registration fee waivers, and travel funds to attend
the LAMP Summer Institute held annually at a different partner institution.
This year the institute is hosted by the University of Michigan Libraries
May 31 - June 3, 2012. The LAMP Summer Institute is a three-day program
designed to prepare scholars for an academic career in LIS and give them
tools to find jobs that best suit their curriculum and interests after
graduation. The institute is an excellent opportunity to meet mentors,
establish professional networks, and explore opportunities in the field.
LAMP offers financial support in the form of a scholarship for students
enrolled in ALA-accredited programs at one of the LAMP partner
institutions: Dominican University, University of Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Wayne State University.
