The Office of the Secretary is made up of the Legal and Operations Branch, The Branch of Library Services, and the Branch of Web Operations.
 
An internship opportunity is available in the Office of the Secretary’s Branch of Library Services. The SEC's Louis Loss Library provides a wide variety of electronic information services in support of the information needs of Commission staff. Library services include research and reference services, collection management, management of the SEC's intranet site, acquisition of informational materials, password support for electronic services, the SEC's Public Reference Room, and information services training.

Begin a challenging and exciting internship with the Executive Office of the President (EOP) providing support to the President of the United States. The EOP is comprised of The White House, Executive Residence, Office of the Vice President, Office of the United States Trade Representatives, Office of Science and Technology Policy, Office of the National Drug Control Policy, Office of Management and Budget, Office of Administration, National Security Staff, Council on Environmental Quality, and Council of Economic Advisers. The EOP has responsibility for tasks ranging from communicating the President's message to the American people to promoting our trade interests abroad.  The Office of Administration is currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated students to serve as unpaid student interns to assist in the performance of its mission of providing support services for the President.  OA views student interns as the future of the Federal workforce. The Office of Administration Student Internship Program provides the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience and build leadership skills.  Participants in the program will be exposed to the Federal work environment and will learn about the mission of the Office of Administration and its role and responsibility to the Executive Office of the President. Internships are available in Library Research: Updating directives archive; scanning legal set for easier access to clients; and participating in library inventory.

Summer 2012 internship positions are available within the Office of Administration with an anticipated begin date of
Monday, May 21, 2012 and end date of Friday, August 17, 2012.. The intern positions lasts for a period of 89 days and interns are expected to work at least 15-20 hours per week. Interns may be asked to work 40 hrs. per week.

INTERNSHIPS AT THE NASHVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Nashville, Tennessee
 

The Nashville Public Library partners with local colleges and universities to create challenging and interesting positions for students throughout the library system. The College Outreach Program at the Library offers unpaid internships and practicums to students across all areas of study and works to place student interns in the best available position to utilize their skills and interests, meet their academic requirements, and create a valuable working experience.
 
Internships are short-term, intensive assignments, structured to achieve a specific outcome. These internships can be pursued for academic credit, in accordance with individual university policies, or not-for-credit, as an experience-based enhancement to their studies or personal goals. Interns will work closely with a mentor who will assist the student, providing guidance and feedback, throughout the term of the internship. Internships normally last from 10-15 weeks, with the student performing at least 150 service hours (unless otherwise specified by university guidelines).
 
Interning at the Nashville Public Library offers students the opportunity to learn, network with professionals, and attain personal goals while promoting the mission of the Library and contributing to its continued success.

All students interested in an internship with the Library must complete an Internship Application, specifying the position of interest, any academic requirements, and the reason for applying. Applications will undergo a review process and students will be notified of their status.

Internship Opportunities
 
Many divisions of the Folger have opportunities for internships, both paid and unpaid, for undergraduate and graduate students to learn about the daily operations of an independent research library with a vigorous set of cultural and educational programs.
 
Internships are available with the following divisions: Central Library, Development, Education, Public Programs, and Research. Preference for Central Library internships is given to graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in Library Science or Museum Studies. For all other internships, preference is given to students pursuing academic and professional goals in the arts and/or humanities. While the majority of these internships are unpaid, this decision is left to each division’s discretion.
 
Central Library internship projects are available in the following areas: Acquisitions, Cataloging, Curatorial support, Digital initiatives, Exhibitions, and Reader Services. Applicants should specify their areas of interest so that applications can be forwarded to the appropriate members of staff.
 
The Development Office is responsible for raising unrestricted and restricted gift income in support of organizational needs from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies.
 
The Folger Education Division offers unpaid internships for students interested in Theatre Education, Education Administration, and Shakespeare. Days and hours are flexible.
 
The Division of Public Programs produces events for the general public, including theatre productions, literary readings, concerts, and tours.
 
The Division of Research sponsors seminars, conferences, and workshops involving the Renaissance period for doctoral and postdoctoral level scholars, and produces Shakespeare Quarterly.
 
Potential interns, screened on an individual basis, should send a résumé, cover letter, and a letter from their institution's internship office stating the requirements for academic credit (if it is to be requested).
