 Position Announcement: Coordinator of the Avon Williams Campus Library/Assistant Professor

 Tennessee State University is seeking a dynamic, committed and service-oriented individual to administer the Tennessee State University’s Avon Williams Campus Library in Nashville, Tennessee.

 Position Purpose: Plan, organize and manage the public services section of the Library by establishing goals and measure accomplishments against recognized standards.

 Essential Functions: The Coordinator will study and establish plans to develop the public services, including assistance to non-traditional students and their ability to access library’s resources and services online. Advise, consult and confer with the Dean of Libraries, Assistant Director for Public Services and Administration, library faculty and staff for best practices.  Supervise three library faculty and 3 support staff. Develop policies and procedures for approval related to public services.  Keep abreast of  emerging library technologies.  Recruit and train new personnel when needed. Coordinate the continued training and development of the staff members by holding in-service workshops and invited trainers. Perform evaluation of staff members annually.  Prepare annual reports. Seek funding for via grants for improvement of programs.  Supervise the maintenance/upkeep of the Avon Williams Campus Library.

 Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science, or Library Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an American Library Association accredited program, and  five (5) years professional experience preferably in administrative and/or managerial/supervisory capacity in an academic library.  Evidence of commitment to professional growth, commitment to continuous improvement that results in positive changes in the work place and service delivery,  experience in computer literacy and knowledge of automated library systems, preferably Innovative Interfaces, experience in library instruction, marketing and public service, ability to work collegially in a small team environment, supervisory skills in managing all functions of the Library including establishing goals, assessment of the staff and the services, staff schedules and others.

 This is a twelve (12) month, tenure-track position with faculty ranking.

POSITION:  ARCHIVIST

 

THE LOCATION: The Iron Range Research Center in Chisholm, MN on the Mesabi Range, just a stone's throw from the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area, Lake Superior, and all of the outdoor recreational opportunities that living in the Northland of Minnesota affords.

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Survey, appraise, arrange, describe, and provide access to records documenting northeastern Minnesota. Provide reference services. Oversee annual budget for archives management. Develop Procedures, protocols and workflows to support ongoing staff and volunteer contributions to management of the Iron Range Research Center's archival assets. Meet with organizational and individual donors to acquire collections. Plan and participates in public events. Provide presentations regarding the Iron Range Research Center's archival program and its collections. Engage in
collaborative grant writing. Must be able to safely lift and carry 40 lbs. Some Saturday hours required.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Library Science degree or equivalent from an American Library
Association-accredited program with coursework in archives and records
management;
Certified Archivist, or working toward certification;
Good written and verbal communication, project management, and planning;
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and effectively with
colleagues and the general public;
Demonstrated knowledge of archival principles and practice;
Experience with digitization projects and content management systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One year + experience as a professional archivist;
Experience with cartographic records;
Experience with industrial records;
Experience with public (government) records;
A record of successful grant writing

George Eastman House is seeking candidates for a Digital Technician position
in its Motion Picture Department. This is a full time, grant funded
position, annually renewable. The archive preserves over 28,000 film titles
in all film gauges and a variety of tape formats. Its Stills, Posters and
Paper Collection contains over 4,000,000 individual historic artifacts of
motion picture culture including posters, production stills, historical
documents, music cue sheets, lobby cards, scripts, pre-cinema materials,
nitrate film frames, audio collections, as well as correspondence related to
filmmakers, producers, and performers.

 

The Digital Technician reports to the Head of Preservation and supports the
Motion Picture Department in implementing its daily activities and special
projects involving digital technologies. Duties include, but are not limited
to:

 

1.      scanning production stills, posters and other paper materials from
the George Eastman House collections;
2.      in-house digitization of motion picture film;
3.      assisting with video ingestion of collection items; performing video
editing for Museum exhibitions, mainly with FinalCut Pro;
4.      participating in uploading video to web pages;
5.      cataloguing and inventorying films, video and other collection
materials, and adding metadata to digital image files;
6.      pulling and returning films, video and other collection materials
from the Museum vaults;
7.      participating in the student activities of The L. Jeffrey Selznick
School of Film Preservation, including, but not limited to, supervising
projects, teaching and mentoring students, and participating in student
field trips;
8.      offering administrative support to the Motion Picture Department by
providing information to staff members, interns and volunteers about the
collection materials.

 

            Candidates should possess an advanced degree in Video / Digital
/ Film, Archive Management or equivalent field, and be fluent in film
archiving and curatorial matters. They should also be:

 

*       Responsible, knowledgeable, and outgoing individuals with experience
in handling archival artifacts and a strong background in motion picture
history.
*       Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
*       Familiar with U.S. and international arts/film/cultural heritage.

 

Candidates must also demonstrate:

.        Extensive knowledge of conservation and handling requirements for a
wide range of film, tape, digital and paper items.

.        Excellent written and oral communication skills.

.        A working knowledge of FinalCut Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Audition,
ProTools, Word, Excel and FileMaker Pro programs.

.        Excellent organizational skills, flexibility and multi-tasking
abilities.

.        An exemplary professional demeanor with strong interpersonal
skills.

.        The ability to liaise with a variety of museum staff, students and
volunteers.
